Grace’s Tabard

A delightful solution to outgrown sweaters, this tabard-style sweater has plenty of room for growth and can be worn as a layer over all sorts of outfits. A band of stranded colorwork adds charm while easy fit means little ones won’t fuss while wearing it. Knit in one piece, from bottom up, in cherry-red sportweight wool yarn.

 

yarn:
300-750 yds/274-685m of sportweight yarn (Category 2) in MC; sample shown in St-Denis Nordique color 5858 red (discontinued; look for a sportweight/Category 2 yarn with good stitch definition)
150yds/137m of each of 3 contrasting sportweight yarns (Category 2); sample shown in St-Denis Nordique color 5820 blue eggshell (CC1), color 5875 elephant (CC2) and #5850 soft yellow (CC3)

needles and supplies:
size US 5 (3.75mm) circular needle, 24”/60cm or longer cable, or size needed to obtain gauge
size US 3 (3.25mm) circular needle, 24”/60cm and 16”/40cm cables, or two sizes smaller than above
waste yarn
stitch markers
crochet hook in Size US C-2 (2.75mm) (for closures)
